What a lovely piece for today. It just wrapped me in a warm feeling much as a hand-knit shawl. I love that Mary Oliver's Dog Songs appears in your drawing. She is a daily read for me, for years now. Her poetry and essays ground me as very few do. During Covid, I started memorizing my favorite poems of hers and they are readily available in times of gladness and in times, like today, of high stress. Also, is the vertical word you're weaving going to be "reasonable?"

Memorizing Mary Oliver -- what a fantastic idea. I so love the idea of having her voice in my head, wherever and whenever--for all the days. It would be so helpful. Thank you for this. Golly.

I just now read your note that sent me to Ursula LeGuin and the carrier bag theory of everything. Wonderful, delightful and certainly true of me as I sit here surrounded by bags of projects on their various ways to completion.

When the kids were little, we had Magnetic Poetry kits, which were on the fridge and open for any and all to walk by and create a little poem or limerick, or just put a question out there, using the individual magnetic words to do so. They were often quirky, sometimes irreverent, but always funny and lots of fun to see them morph and change on the fridge. It struck me as I thought of your Poetic Comic endeavor, that all 100 of your words could be thus employed! You might need a quilter's wall...you know the ones where they cover foam board with felt and can pin up their designed squares to create whatever overall design they want. :) You could just use a cork board I suppose, with some pins to pin the words in order and then rearrange them tomorrow for a new and different poem or haiku or whathaveyou. Hmmm. Sarah it occurs to me that for some strange reason I am always filled with ideas following reading your posts here and that could be quite irritating or just a bit unwelcome since you yourself have such marvelous and wonderful ideas and you just don't need someone tossing out Oh you could do this! or that! Ugh. Well, I shall restrain myself in future, or just keep to myself what gets sparked by the amazing posts you send! You will never know what an inspiration you are to us all! And to myself particularly. I love the possible sweater coat you are assembling, and all the tapestry words done Scrabble style! How fascinating! And hand spun yarn, especially spindle spun...is it not sheer poetry itself?? Oh yes, sheer poetry in swirling motion. All the best to you and Beryl! 💖

Oh gosh, what an abundance of possibilities! I love the thought that these posts can inspire such bounty -- and reflect some of it back. Thanks.

Also -- congratulations on having your beautiful work and words in Tommye's book! That series is marvelous.

I wonder if a requirement of 30 minutes per week of knitting for everyone in and campaigning for Congress, a cabinet post and the White House would change the tone of things here? 😊

Now that is a brilliant suggestion.

Really enjoyed this! What do you use to color in your illustrations?

Thanks! I use handmade watercolors—mostly from foraged rocks and plants. A friend of mine makes them

Thank you . This is a helpful and hopeful post. Still awaiting the date of completion for our house sale and move, and I so need to start over again, unpack and organise, and do things properly again.

Oh how satisfying it will be to get to the other side of the unpacking. May it happen soon.

I just laugh at Beryl’s thought bubbles every time!

And crossword puzzle word tapestries … what a brilliant idea!

I’m slowly teaching myself how to weave words & letters. My Chloe loom is dedicated to the alphabet, one letter per tapestry.

One letter per tapestry, that is a fabulous way to go about it. And then you can have so much fun mixing them up into all kinds of marvelous words!
