Excellent news Margaret. Pretty easy to not be an Instagrammer these days, I have to say. I still drop in now and then but they keep changing things and adding more adds and-- Oh, it makes me so happy to get to be here where we can all talk slowly and directly. Thanks for your thoughts and for being here.
Yep, the videos are yummy! I read the whole thing and then went back and watched them. I like the background sounds, especially in the last video where the wood was making the sound wood makes when it knocks together. It reminded me of a Jilly Edwards video where, at one point, her bobbins are making that magical sound. Here ya go, if you haven't seen it. It's really lovely!
Oh yes indeed. I love this video (and was happy to watch it again!) So satisfying. And I love that she finger picks her shed, like I do. Thanks for that and the vote for video yumminess!
I love the houndstooth, and with the tapestry! And I love the videos of your weaving with the bobbin. Your movement is so smooth and experienced!! As far as feed back, all the videos were helpful and entertaining. I guess it all depends on what you would like to add in each Gusset!! Thank you!
And thank YOU for the positive feedback dearie! I never know what is going to show up, and it is extra fun to have a variety of possibilities to choose from--even unexpected ones...
Keep playing! Isn't that how we find some surprises? I haven't been weaving as much but still exploring knitting and spinning/blending my dogs hair to become a skein and hence a hat that my digs previous owner (the musher) would wear in the winter. Interesting spinning with dog hair - so love it blended with sheep, in this case, Romeldale! Nice yarn it has turned out to be!
I think having the videos in with your great photos and awesome comics is a good thing. Always nice to see how things move and hear the ambient sounds. Plus, they don’t play automatically, so you can just scroll past if you can’t watch right away. Love the tabby tapestry! 🖤
Houndstooth and tapestry...dark sheeps grey and white... Bliss! And for Beryl (and you as the painter) to have her own colors!!! How special can one get? As to the videos...They are a nice diversion and it is lovely to hear the background noises - especially the birds - but to be honest I prefer the written word and photo stills. But YOU are the author and should do what floats YOUR boat. 😉
I'm in the minority "Changes the feel of everything" camp as far as The Gusset is concerned because it leaves less room for your wonderful pictures. I do forget that I follow you on Instagram though, so what would work well for me would be that you keep The Gusset in pretty well it's old format, and just remind us that there is related content on Instagram or even add the link for that if it's allowed.
I was a bit frustrated about how apparently effortlessly you keep straight edge in your tapestry weaving, but I guess you've been doing it for a lot longer than I have and in the words of one of the top embroidery teachers in the UK, everything in life is rhythm and practice.
I love the colours of Beryl and they all look right for a blue dog in different lights.
Sorry about the straight selvedges Jacquie ;-) So bloody easy for that not to happen and I have to admit to always being pleasantly surprised and pleased (even after decades), when everything stays where I hope it will. And Thanks for the thoughts about the videos. My thoughts are now that if I do include more, I'll try to give them the feel/look of still photos so you can go either way. Seems that a number of people just skipped the videos while reading, and then went back later as they felt like it... Not that I shoot that much video -- it's just fun to play sometimes, eh?
I like the still , cartoon (elevated) vibe. I would follow the link to Instagram afterwards but I skipped over it for thinking that it broke the rhythm and I was anxious to follow your thoughts.
Thanks Cindy, for the feedback. As I was just saying to Jackie up above, if I do include more videos, I"ll try to make them look at first glance like photos so you can glide right over and then, if you want, go back and watch later as seemingly a lot of people chose to do. And, indeed, how I do it myself when videos show up. Sometimes I skip and sometimes go back and watch. But as you know, I'm still mostly a still image kinda gal -- try to get the action (or implied action) into the comics!
ha! not a chance will I replace the comics with videos, no matter how fun they occasionally are to make. The latter, indeed, are an addition if anything -- and SO love that you feel the same way. So THANKS!
I liked the video, and I especially liked not having to click and go somewhere else to see it. THAT would disturb the flow, for me. And it's lovely to see you with a supportive sidekick :) I lost mine in August 2020 after almost 17 years of constant companionship, and somehow seeing you and yours has given me a little flicker of hope that the Right Time may come one day.
OH golly, I"m so sorry about the loss of your beloved sidekick. My dog before Beryl lived to be 17 and it took a while to get over not having him here. Well, not sure I actually am, though Beryl is doing a wondrous job of helping me move forward. I trust the same will happen for you. And thank you for the video support. So helpful!
Yes the videos add to your greatness! One of my very favorite Houndstooth! And a stunning tabby also!! What an inspiration for a project! Combine 2 totally different styles with out clashing them!! WOW! SO COOL! Awesome super tapestry..Blessings and thanks for the peek!
Thanks for all the delicious support and happy comments. Houndstooth is delicious isn't it? Plain weave doing extraordinary things. And it was fun to find a simple matching tapestry vibe!
You put major ideas in my head!! Such inspiration! I have a lilly mills loom..I'm looking at tablet weave mixed with a plain weave...for a tote bag..rt now I'm focusing on my knitting..baby cloths..I found out about 8 weeks ago I'm 4 months pg at 63!! With twins!! WOW! what a beautiful blessing! A second round! I'll catch up on my weaving after I get babby stuff done!! I have a sashiko rice bag in progress..I gave to finish yet!! I've always been a fan of your cottage yarns you make so fun to see your work progress! Blessings and pet your dog other head..masseyna and SCORCH
I found the videos to be a welcome treat. To be able to see you working was a delight. The unrolling of the houndstooth fabric was so much fun. Sometimes I stop to watch the video and sometimes I go back. Watched the first, read some more, went back for the second and watched the third as I came to it. Really enjoyed this one.
Welcome treat! yay! Much appreciate your description of how you watched them too -- in the moment or afterward. Very helpful in thinking about how to present stuff. Thank you for the words and support.
Hell yes! on the videos Sarah. Just love watching you weave, tuck tails, you name it. And can't wait to see what you will turn that strip of cloth into. I'm thinking perhaps one of your super cool shirts.
hell yes! That's what we like to hear. Also super happy that the live tail tucking was useful. And yes... a shirt has occurred to me. Just need a wee bit more yardage so onward with the spindle.

Thanks for the videos and thanks again for keeping in touch and letting us know what you are doing.
I did the same as Ellen. Post the videos here, please.so I don't have to go to Instagram!

I quite enjoy the occasional video especially with some gentle sound that happens to be around. I like the quiet.
Me too -- like the quiet I mean. Hard to imagine talking actually, as the materials do make such luscious subtle sounds. Thanks!

I liked the videos very much. Just don't take away the cartoons! You are such an inspiration, whatever medium you choose to use.
