Oh the bubblers!! You inspired me to, again, make a new one on my patio where I sit and weave, read and write. The sounds of the water, the birds and the breeze is such good medicine.

what an Excellent idea! I have a little “faux rock fountain” that a very dear (-ly departed) friend gave me eons ago. I have some flat bluestones I can create a little cairn of sorts in the corner of our little patio (right under the electrical outlet!) & set the fountain there. then I’ll also have sounds of water - birds - breeze. ❣️

Gosh that sounds lovely! I adore the idea of a cairn (of sorts). Stones are wondrous things, aren’t they.

It sure is. Magically, the sound and movement creates a private and restful space even when other things are going on. So glad you’ve got one too

Wow a whole newsletter of philosophy. Beryl showed great forebearance, and I love the water sounds. It took me back to living by a brook. I also love teasing wool, and then spinning it. Thank you for your musings.

OOoooh, that’s lovely to know. Thanks. Delightfully, I recently recommended it to my 91 year old non-fiction-reading father, and he is now reading it too!

I love Understanding Comics. It was required reading for my two-dimensional design students. I haven't read it in a while since I retired from teaching. Must search out my copy.

So glad to hear this. It was a game changer of a book for me too —and just talking about it makes me want to re-read it myself. Thanks!

Thanks for another lovely Tuesday visit, complete with philosophy, good books, a doggie tango, and glimpses and sounds of your world. Was that a train I heard behind the bubbler? .... This is the first place I've lived where I can't hear trains (of course I've been here 22 years now!). But the previous 8 places over 58 years all included clattering boxcars and train whistles in the night. I love our creek music, but I do miss the trains sometimes!

Trains! YES. All day and all night. Two big lines cross here: Union Pacicfic and Burlington Northern. I live a few blocks from a couple of road crossings so you can really hear them tooting away (though actually you can hear them everywhere in town. I know I’ve settled in somewhat though, because I now sleep through it. I think I’d take a bubbling creek over trains, even as I do like the sound. Oddly, my brain still sometimes thinks it is taxi drivers honking when I hear the horns. Possibly because spent my early years in NYC where people honk all the time???

The creek and silence are truly golden. I was never near constant train commotion, or I tuned a lot of it out. My nostalgia is for hearing "that lonesome whistle blow...."🎶

That all was lovely. Very soothing in this turbulent time in LA. I have a little fountain in storage, so I have my fan for some white noise. I need to say that the last time I walked barefoot outside was when I stepped on a scorpion and got a nasty sting on the bottom of my foot. If I tried again, I would end up stepping on every sharp rock or sticker on the ground. You are truly gifted Sarah to walk so. ;)

Oh golly yes. Thinking of LA. So so crazy and hard.

Also not a great place to walk barefoot except maybe at the beach? I actually feel fortunate (and amazed) that I can be barefoot in these woods. No major prickles or cacti, no scorpions, and no rattlesnakes (as with other places I definitely keep my shoes on….)

Very pretty rose. Perhaps it would be my inspiration to do the dishes, or at least spend a little time enjoying being with it. But then, I am a sucker for pale pink roses! Love that Beryl had company, She is an admirable hostess. :-) I have been trying to get around to making a bird bath/frog pond in the back of the property. Not too big. Just enough to have a little flowing water and a small, shallow catch basin. Your bubbler is helping me to get back to doing this! Our frogs and birds are in serious need of help here. In the mean time, I keep a fine mist going during the day in a dappled sunlight area where I plan to create the frog/bird bathing spot. I will be reading I Capture The Castle soon on your recommendation! Thank you for all of the other treats in this post!

Your little fountain for the frogs and birds sounds wonderful. If I were a frog I'd hang out near a "little flowing water and a catch basin." Mine is probably too close to the house to inspire the birds, but now I'm wondering if a second one just a little further away would be a good idea. Not that I can get to far from the house as my back garden is seriously tiny!

Birds and frogs may find your bubbler. As I understand it, both frogs and birds look and listen for moving water. Many birds and butterflies come to the mister I hang in the shrubs. The mister is just a hose nozzle with many settings found at nurseries and hardware stores, The mister setting set on low uses very little water for the nice fine mist it produces. On really hot days you and Beryl might like it, too! :-)
