I see now why you love making things "the long way"...it's because you want to relish each and every stitch, moment, history, sensation, feel and thought that goes into it! Love that! And perhaps you might like to knit yourself a pair of bloomers? https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/fir-bloomers Just a thought... All the best to you dear Sarah for your unwavering inspiration for us, and your enthusiasm for all things creative! Love, Jennifer
Golly Jennifer-- I might just have try that pattern. Those bloomers look very comfortable--wearable even without a dress over the top? And thank you for your lovely words.
Sarah, I love your much-loved and mended outfits! The phone free-fall was the icing on the cake! 🤣 Side note, love that sewing machine. You and I have the same distraction problem. Get me anywhere near my vegetable and flower gardens, and it’s uh, oh...we’ve lost her! Last thing, I love your new whispy golden-yellow sundress! It brings to mind the much blushed-over picture of Princess Diana in a sheer skirt, sans “bloomers!” I would add that picture, but not sure I would do it right. Sarah, I love reading The Gusset--it is so fun! Thank you! 💐
Oh my-- Princess Diana caught without a slip. A marvelous inspiration that has made me feel more about confident heading out into the world in the yellow dress (which I've done frequently in the past week because... hot!).
Oh Sarah- What sweetness and laughter and inspiration from your newsletter. I adore everything you create, even through mishaps 😏. The yellow garment suits you, you’re like a marigold!
Are you familiar with Carolyn Hilyer? She’s “curated and woven” a book called Her Bone Bundle, it’s a collection of words in the 4000 year old proto-Celtic language. I imagine you would have an amazing time creating/playing with these words. 🥰
I was introduced to Carolyn Hilyer through Sharon Blackie's work, but somehow had missed the Bone Bundle book. I"m fascinated and may well need a copy for my library (and brain). What a phenomenal and important thing to study. Thank you Liz! Also for your enthusiastic words about The Gusset. And the marigold dress which has slipped nicely into my wardrobe rotation this week. Hope all is well with you
Gosh Pamela -- welcome to tapestry where the learning goes on and on and on -- still unfolding for me after all these years. I had no idea how many fascinating avenues there would be to follow when I began--letters to least. And yes, I have considered such a class, but only in the vague thought/idea/maybe someday way. So....possibly? Maybe? Some day? It sure would be fun to work with Rebecca like this again.
Wow. Well, I am pleased to say, you have inspired me. I have never learnt. Still, I have warped my little inkle loom and I purchased a small Travellers loom. Maybe something I can make whilst on my long commute into Melbourne on my office days. Your small samples inspire me. I developed Carpal Tunnel so on top of my required 2 new knees,I may be able to live a normal life. A friend suggested weaving might be easier on my hands than spinning, knitting and crochet. Then your blogs… it is an omen I believe, that I was meant to do more. With your weekly blessings, I am sure I will be actively crafting again. THANK YOU sorry, had to shout that. If I could, I would hug you and your amazing audience! You have made a big difference to my very depressed life.
Gosh Christine, thank you so much for your lovely words -- and I do hope that weaving is easier on your hands than spinning, knitting and crochet. I generally find it so myself -- less gripping for one thing, which my thumbs much appreciate. So frustrating when our bodies are not happy with our beloved work, isn't it? And how fortunate that somehow, sometimes, we suddenly find that there are other things that slip in to help us out. My best to you (and your knees and hands and arms), and whatever you are weaving.
Didn’t get to respond to last week s mosquitoes and mice story, though it brought back to my memory a rather similar story complete with scream and sleepless night.
Oh, Sarah, you give so much joy and inspiration every week. You are so treasured!!
OH, so sorry about your mouse/mosquito episode! Furry midnight surprises and sleep just are not compatible, eh? Well, at least for some of us at some times in our existence. There was a time when I was living in a tepee (temporarily so not set up in any fancy way), and mice would just run through it at night since the canvas didn't touch the ground. All the food had to be kept firmly encased in our pots and pans at night! But I was young then and slept through a lot of it....
You look marvelous in all your creations, my dear! Remember…it is our year to reinvent our style. Maybe a bit of “sheerness” is what your inner child is calling for??? And that YELLOW is literally sending me over the Moon (which will be Full 🌕 in the not too distant future)!!!!! 💛💛💛
Isn't that yellow amazing? Kind of ochery? The only difficulty I'm having with it is that the ochre watercolor that is perfect for the dress is also the one I use for my skin, being a yellow-ish sort of gal. Thank goodness I can dilute it! And thanks for that idea of my inner chid wanting lightness and sheerness. Being open to the world and whatever comes....
Honestly, I wouldn’t worry too much about bloomers. As long as you have some sort of undergarments on, that dress covers you more than any bathing suit. And people consider bathing suits (at least some of them) to be decent.
Well that is true. I do wear undies (and often some "boy shorts" with longish legs) so actually would be perfectly decent by today's standards of dress (everyone in spandex all the time) even without the dress. Thanks for the reminder
I especially loved the wonder of nature matching the yellow thread and the same colors found surreptitiously! I can also see why you love that clackety-clack of the sewing machine! Reminds me of the one my aunt had, alas, lost to time!
It was delightful to notice all the yellow things that matched the thread. One of those moments where everywhere I looked there was a spot of yellow. A friend once told me about that as a relaxation/focus technique --to just look for blue things or yellow things or red things -- and how many tidbits there were. Especially good in, say, a doctor's waiting room, where impatience is sometimes the order of the day...
Thanks, my day just mellowed out considerably.

I remember that photo! Quite the scandal at the time, that she was backlit with no slip on. Such a tempest in a teapot!
I remember it too! Diana was such a trendsetter!

Wonderful! ❤️
i love seeing beryl and sarah shenanigans and wonder how you both understand and intersect that tapestry four letter word.
Good to find you here Velma!

Have you considered teaching a class on creating letters similar to the fringeless class you taught with Rebecca? I am a newbie and still learning.
Yes, please.

Love that you made such a happy dress. The color made me smile. You are a wonder.

Thank you for the particularly lovely photo of Beryl and you. And the yellow dress is fabulous.

You are my shero! (feminine form of hero ;-) ) I just love how you can make anything. Both the sweater and the sun dress are gorgeous!!!
"Shero"! What a fantastic word. Thank you kindly for that lexicographical treat. And for letting me be one for a moment. Blush.
