I do hope you find a way to photograph the whole tapestry. The snippets you've shown us are gorgeous! Perhaps it can move past the camera lens like a scroll?
Oh my goodness. Am I the first to The Gusset today? Finishing a tapestry seems like a perfect way to spend a birthday. Wishing you and Beryl many joys on your next journey around the sun!
Happy Birthday! Being able to do whatever you want for as long as you want is the best present ever! May your supplies to make yearn with never run out, may your candles never fizzle out while you're not looking, and may Beryl never run out of sticks to fetch. 'Cause every dog deserves a present on their human's birthday too. Love you both.
Happiest of birthdays to you Sarah!! May you have many more whole days to weave, knit, spin, walk with Beryl in your new sweaters-of-perfection!👏🎂🧁🎁🎈🌠❤️
I do wash my tapestries as though they were sweaters. At least the wool ones. I've never had trouble with colors running because for the most part I spin and dye my own so make SURE they are well dyed and rinsed. For those few yarns I don't dye (smidgins of mill spun yarn for instance), I always do a test before using them just to be sure.
Happy Birthday Sarah! Wishing you and Beryl all the serendipity a weaver and her dog can find to enjoy. So love the details of finishing this very special tapestry! By candlelight no less!!!
Tapestries might be made for Candlelight, don't you think? Even though we no longer have to weave by the flickering flames, it does feel somehow perfect to view them that way.
Happy birthday 🥳!! Have you tried panorama setting on your camera? I feel that slowly walking along the length of the tapestry using panorama might work 😜
Happy birthday! I just wanted to say one of the best things one can do is get silicone molds and beeswax pellets and make those beeswax candles oneself (whenever one wants, as many as one wants, and of course reusing the wax as many times as one wants). It's terribly gratifying! And they make for beautiful presents too :)
Oooooh. That does sound so deliciously tempting. And honestly, I suppose since I save my stubs, I could just start by melting those down myself! Thanks for the new rabbit hold. (I think).
First, happy belated birthday. Seems you spent the day pretty much the way you prefer, which is lovely. Second, I bought a little beeswax candle for a house gift from a local lady who keeps the critters, while at the same time purchasing a block of beeswax which will end up as furniture polish if I can find some real turpentine (not as simple in Blighty as you might think). Win! Third, yes, Beryl exhibits the best of canine traits, does she not? Don't suppose green illuminated collars are sold, though.
I think I've seen the illuminated collars in other colors -- pink, green and yellow. Since Beryl has been wearing hers I've noticed that more and more other madrugadorial dog walkers have been getting and using them and it's lovely as we can see one another from a distance in the dark.
And your own furniture polish? Now that is a really good idea. Beeswax is a miracle. Good luck finding turpentine though!
Oh, I was just thinking green to complement her name, since emeralds are a form of beryl. Don't mind me, I often overthink.
Yeah, we last hunted for turpentine for a beekeeper about a decade ago, but we did eventually find it at exorbitant price. Let's say that we are girding our loins.
Not overthinking at all about the color working with her name. Blue would too as Aquamarines are also Beryls. Indeed, that’s kind of where her name came from. I could have called her Indigo too, but somehow Beryl is what came out of my mouth so that’s who she is. Of course people often think I’m saying “barrel” …
And I’m fascinated by the idea of turpentine being expensive. I haven’t looked for it for ages but it seems like it used to be something people just had around for cleaning up oil paint.

That's a great idea! it'd be easier to show too, without taking up too much of the page. I'll try it!

Thank you so much. It's been a wild ride already, and not even a week into it.

What an utterly lovely birthday blessing. Thank you!
Happy birthday! May your year be filled with joy and lovely threads!

Gosh thank you Jennifer. And I wish the same to you -- those days full of weaving, spinning, knitting and walking. Oh yes -- and drawing!
Happy birthday! I have a question. When you wash the tapestry, do you have to worry about colors running/bleeding? Or is everything very colorfast?

Beryl seems the very essence of unbridled.
And a happy birthday season to you!
That sounds like a very nice birthday! Many happy returns of the day!
Happy birthday to you 🎶🎶and many more.
Thank you for the joy you give me receiving updates on all your projects🙏😍🎂💐🌈

Oh gosh, I haven't tried that. Brilliant idea. When the tapestry is dry I'll give it a go. Thanks!
I love this post! Happy Birthday! Always a sweet calm breath of fresh air. Thank you for sharing.
Beautiful post, as always. Sounds like a perfect day - belated good wishes from UK.
It was simply lovely -- lentils, loom and all. Thank you!
Happy birthday Sarah! And such a wonderful tapestry too!
Oh gosh Linda. Thank you so very much.
