I'm super scared of heights too and it took a while to get used to doing this, but happily, the roof is almost flat and we have a ladder built into the wall of the house, so I have a system. Still --- always glad to have it done!
I love your fiber work, and your drawings, and your sweet doggie. The vest is a triumph! I love that it is a one-of-a-kind work of art and inspiration. Thanks for sharing so much of yourself with the rest of us. And ditto what Ellen said about the roof. You're very brave, in all the best ways.
Oh Golly --thank you so much Joyce, for all the words and thoughts. It means so much. And as I wrote to Ellen, the roof is actually almost flat -- and there is the added benefit of FEELING brave when I've been put there, which sometimes is a nice inner boost if you know what I mean!
Thank you so much Kate. I do have to say that wearing it makes me feel just a teensy bit as magic as the witches in your your wondrous story. I actually once wove a tapestry about the Fates. Well, I called them the Wyrd (the Tapestry is called The River Wyrd with contemporary models). As a spinner and weaver it's hard not to feel a connection, you know. Innate power-- not quite so much, though a gal can pretend sometimes, eh? Better than the Lady of Shallot anyway, even if her tower life actually feels more familiar...
That's why I did a day course on drop spinning with a spindle at Shetland Wool Week, to see what it felt like. To my amazement it's the twist that travels, not the spindle ...
What a wonderful woolly neppy batt vest, all primitive high fashion and best of all, warm! I love felting but haven't done any for a while. I use olive oil soap, gentler on the hands. ... Thanks for another Tuesday inspiration!
Olive Oil soap is a great idea. Any hand made soap actually -- and it'd be nice to rub it directly onto the slowly congealing (if that is the right word), wool. Thanks
I've thought about embroidering on it for sure. I've embroidered on felt before and it is just delicious -- the needle slipping through like butter. For now I'm really loving the white, but knowing me, I may soon need to embroider over the odd stain. Or dunk the whole thing in an indigo vat....
oooh yes. Shetland fleece would make totally yummy felt. In fact as I recall when I last washed some Shetland, it was even more eager to felt than the Targhee. Good luck and have a grand time.
The vest looks fabulous! Oh, to wear a cloud...
And I'm impressed with your roof activities. I'm a big scaredy cat with heights.

How I do love this stylin earthy garment-especially the asymmetrical lapels and the big jaunty pocket that could contain all manner of magical tools🤎

No roof work for me but the vest is to dream of!! Thanks for the videos!!
Your vest is just beautiful!
beautiful vest! I'm signing up for the wool channel. I love wool. Who doesn't?
I hope you love Clara P's work as much as I do. She's a wooly force of nature and I'm so glad she exists.
Wow! Love your vest! Thank you for sharing the process!
Oh that is high fashion gorgeous! What a wonderful way to spend three days. It looks so good on you too.

Magical isn’t it!
beautiful...
Before I began, the very white pieces of felt almost looked like brain- tanned (unsmoked) buckskin
I was going to say, they did look like buckskin... wonderful.
This so completely fab!!!
I enjoyed this SO much. It was a real education and I am envious of your cool warm vest. thank you for sharing with us!
you are so very welcome!

Wonderful!!!! I’d like to see some embroidery on it- I am inspired
Oh yes, that would be fab.

Love the design of your felt vest. As always Sarah, you inspire me to get busy!!! Great videos and directions, and Beryl is so cute. xoxoxo
Thanks Debra! Beryl sends thanks too
OK, just so cool. Now you've got me eyeing some stashed fleece that has been languishing. Shetland, I think, but clean and ready to card. Oh, boy. 😁

It’s a beautiful waistcoat (vest!) and very you!
Oh gosh Carol, thanks! I love that you know that -- cuz yes, it does feel like me. Not very symmetric....
