So timely, Sarah, for my course with Margaret Jones of Heallreaf fame. We're playing with colour for three whole days next week. I was thinking of setting myself a different primary colour for each day and riff off each in turn. But then "green" which is in a class of its own!
What a fantastic way to work. Total immersion in all the variations of one at a time. Actually reminds me of a thing I’ve got on the loom right this moment! Must be in the air…
Thanks for the opportunity to take a walk in the now. I live in Arizona, and the temp is in the 90's today. But we o have lot of green...a desert, muted green, and some new fresh greens too. I love your sweater!
Those desert greens are amazing—so inviting and restful. Unless, of course, you’re sitting in the shade panting and hoping it’ll cool down a little. 90s is HOT. Sorry I can’t send some of today’s Pouring rain your way…
I surely know the feeling of long term distraction — and befuddlement of “what ‘s happened while I was looking the other way? I’ve moved to the town where my granddaughter (age 2) lives with her adorable parents — a couple of hours north of here..
Oops — meant to put the border description here — but as i just wrote to Kate, they are K3 P 1 around, offset by one stitch each round so the purl bumps make spirals (going either direction depending on which way you offset the pattern). Satisfying to do, nice and stretchy and prevents rolling without being ribbing!
It’s just a plain old top down raglan — very basic. Short rows across the back, increasing at the raglan points till the neck is deep enough to go round and round.
The borders are just K3P1 around, offset by one stitch each round so the purl bumps make a spiral. On the sleeves, one spiral goes sunwise and the other widdershins— just for fun!
I am green with envy! Actually I am thrilled you are living the dream in green. Thanks also for sharing where you get your paints from. You have a very distinctive and beautiful palette. Now I know why! Will have to check out your supplier.
Oh yes! Plump moss is my favorite color, and we've been blessed with enough rain to revel in a lush mossy spring so far this year. ... At first I thought you'd created another magic medium sweater (I've worn mine all winter), then I saw the raglans. No pattern? Wish I could do that!...
I've finally finished my bag on a box and love it. Actually, it's more of a free-standing box, only a little floppy. No doubt some things will decide to dwell therein, but for the moment seeing the design inside the empty space, as well as out is some fun. ... So, thanks for all you share. You see your seeds sprout in far flung places! ... Hope you enjoy sinking roots in your new place. Spring is prime time for that.
And how that green becomes you!! You in your perfect sweater with 'by Sarah C. Swett' written in every stitch! Who knew, being you could turn out right as rain and twice as quenching. So happy to see that merriment in your eyes! That Beryl deserves all of the walks you can afford her for going with the flow these last few months. Love that pic of her, too!
When I was 10 we moved from Michigan to just outside Los Angeles. I lived there for 50 years before moving back to Michigan. After spending so much of my life with the main color being shades of grey, from the sidewalk to the buildings to the sky, green still amazes me after being in Michigan for 9 years now. I'm in the middle of a sweater knitting class. and when I finish this first one, I want to do another - the top 1/4 in light yellow, the middle1/3 in sky blue, and the rest in green. The world is a beautiful mixture when we give it a chance. Yellow and blue mixed into green make for a wonderful place indeed.
Your sweater sounds heavenly. Like the perfect northern spring day, with daffodils blooming between grass and sky. YUM. And Michigan is a beautiful state. And
How I love your green tribute. Yes, it is hard to sleep without a being when you are so used to it.
I finally decided what to start my first real tapestry with and narrowed it down to 2 images. My dear heart hated them both saying everyone starts with comic people. Do a Roselle instead.
Now I am back to green rolling hills that look nothing the Great Dividing range I live at the base of. ‘Sigh’
Green rolling hills tapestries are pretty much what began my tapestry career — and have reappeared regularly— so I, for one, am all in favor! And tapestry structure does lend it self so nicely to horizontal waves, doesn’t it?
Wonderful praise for green I love it and your projects

Oh Sarah where on Gods “green earth” have you moved to? I’ve been busy and distracted this last year but I always read your sweet gusset 😊

Ahhhh, green.....what a wonderful color! Not just for spring, but all year round!
You’re inspiring me to get back to my loom! I made a little tapestry for “fern” too, inspired by The Lost Words. Do you know that book?
I do know that book. Isn’t it beautiful? Robert MacFarlane and Jackie Morris are amazing.
ooh, beautiful. tis the season for green!
Oh how I dream to live where you live,,, I love to listen to the trees and smell the green-ness of them !
Green is, of course, the best colour. And there's so much of it!
And a tiny bit more every day for the next while too — which is just so yummy, eh?
Well now I'd just like that sweater pattern ....
Same here! Marvelously simple, with lovely borders.

Just found a thing that’ll give you the gist of the structure:

Thank you! I'm knitting a top down sweater right now, and I'll try out that swirling rib for the neck: too late for the bottom!

So happy your magic medium has been a steady friend!
And hurrah for your box/bag completion. That’s huge. I love to think of it sitting there full of air and promise without committing itself as yet…
You had me at moss...

You are right. And I love the swirls you have in you Palooza by the sea tapestries.
